Competitive Program

WCRG’s successful competitive stream is a select group of athletes who are chosen for their athletic potential, keen desire to learn along with a commitment to the sport of Rhythmic Gymnastics. They are a cohesive team that supports each other as they strive to be their best in this sport and in life. The team travels and competes in multiple competitions (Provincial, Western, National, and International) each year and consistently brings home medals and memories to last a lifetime.

Competitive gymnasts commit to the program for the full season.

Competitive routines are developed to suit the personality and character of the gymnast while meeting difficulty requirements as proscribed by the sport. The gymnast’s choreography skills (creativity, artistry, and expression) will be further developed through training and mandatory ballet. Athletes will compete at the Provincial and Western level with additional opportunities to participate in National and International Invitational events. Western Stream athletes are required to commit to a minimum of three (3) times per week four (4) hours* per day program. National

Novice, Junior, Senior

WCRG’s National Stream is an advanced competitive program for elite-level gymnasts at the Gymnastics Canada National Level.

Athletes train 20 hours per week with ballet integrated into the training (Mondays) and an additional ballet class required weekly on Saturday.

Gymnasts will compete provincially, regionally, nationally, and at select international competitions.

Rhythmic Group

Rhythmic Group is division of competitive Rhythmic Gymnastics where groups of 4-5 athletes train on a routine using an apparatus (proscribed by the regulations for each Olympic cycle). The discipline combines elements of dance movements, lifts, and collaborations. Gymnasts develop flexibility, balance, speed, strength, coordination, and a sense of rhythm.

The sport requires athletic skill as well as strength, power, flexibility, agility and endurance. Each choreography creates a story, using expressive interpretation of music, through beautiful movements.  It is the perfect discipline to develop the ability to work as a member of a team in a creative performance environment

Gymnasts should be currently enrolled in the Competitive Team – Provincial or higher or have recent gymnastics, dance or cheer experience. Groups will perform at Club Shows (e.g., Snowflake Show, Spring Fling, and Year End Show) and may be invited to attend competitions at other clubs.

Commitment to Group is for the full year.

Ballet

Competitive gymnasts in Provincial, Western and National will have one hour of ballet training as part of their class on Mondays. As well, Western and National level gymnasts will attend a mandatory online ballet class on Saturday afternoons. This class focuses on developing body skills and technique specific to the sport.

Current gymnasts are provided recommendations for the new season at year-end Coach meetings and should register as soon as possible to reserve space.
New gymnasts for the Competitive program will need an assessment. Contact WCRG at gymnasticsinvictoria@gmail.com to schedule an assessment.
